Greenfield-Central came up just short against a top-10 ranked Noblesville Millers Monday night, falling 8-7 in a tightly contested extra-inning battle. The Cougars jumped out early, scoring four runs in the second and another in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. Noblesville answered with a five-run fourth inning of their own, capitalizing on free passes and hit-by-pitches to swing momentum their way. Hayden Kidd led the Cougars at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Zander Cobb added a hit and scored a key run as part of GC’s 5-hit effort. In the top of the 7th, Parker Rhodes delivered a clutch, game-tying 2-RBI single to center field, scoring Nate Flench and Cobb to even things at 7-7. Gavin Markus got the start on the mound and struck out 7 over 3.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs. Carson Richardson was solid in relief, keeping the game close and working out of several high-pressure situations. Despite the fight, Noblesville walked it off in the bottom of the 8th to escape with the win. Greenfield-Central now sits at 3-2 on the season and will open Hoosier Heritage Conference play Tuesday night at Delta. First pitch is set for 6 PM.
