Greenfield-Central pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory Tuesday night, walking off the visiting Delta Eagles 4-3 with a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. Delta opened the scoring early, plating a run in the first inning on an error and adding two more in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead into the final frame. Parker Rhodes started on the mound and was dominant, striking out eight batters across four innings while giving up just one earned run. The Cougars answered in the third with a two-out RBI double from Zander Cobb, scoring Jacob Welch to tie the game 1-1. Delta capitalized on an error and a pair of singles in the sixth to reclaim the lead, but Greenfield-Central wasn’t done. In the bottom of the seventh, Gavin Markus sparked the rally with a leadoff single. Carter Ellis followed with a base hit of his own, and Jacob Welch drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out. Dylan Luther drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center. Then, Hayden Zellers dropped a perfect bunt to score Ellis, tying the game at 3-3. After an intentional walk to Cobb, Brady Johnson delivered the game-winning hit, a walk-off single to center that plated Welch and sent the Cougars pouring out of the dugout in celebration. On the night: Zander Cobb finished 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Brady Johnson came through in the clutch, going 1-for-4 with the walk-off RBI. Gavin Markus, Carter Ellis, and Jacob Welch each reached base twice and scored in the seventh-inning rally. Steven Walker earned the win in relief, working out of a jam in the sixth and tossing a scoreless seventh with a strikeout. Greenfield-Central improves to 4-2 on the season and will look to sweep the series when they travel to Delta Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
