Cougars Defeat North Central Behind Walker’s Complete Game Gem

By Mitch Gibson | May 5, 2025 9:50 PM

Greenfield-Central took care of business Monday night with a 6–1 win over North Central, fueled by a dominant complete game from sophomore Steven Walker. Walker went all 7 innings, giving up just 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 7 and walking only 1. The Cougars scratched across an early run in the 3rd before breaking it open in the 7th with a 3-run rally. Zander Cobb and Hayden Kidd led off the inning with singles, and Carter Ellis delivered the big blow — a 2-RBI single to right. Dylan Luther and Jacob Welch followed with quality at-bats to keep the line moving, and Brady Johnson capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center. Offensively, Ellis finished 2-for-2 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Kidd went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Welch reached base three times with 3 walks, and Cobb and Luther each added a hit and a run. Greenfield-Central improves their record with the win and now shifts focus to a key HHC matchup. Up next: The Cougars return home tomorrow night to begin a 2-game Hoosier Heritage Conference series against rival Pendleton Heights.
