With their height, athleticism, and experience, the Mt. Vernon Marauders proved to be the stronger competitor in Tuesday night's match. Mt. Vernon dominated the first set and won 25-8. The Cougars battled back at the beginning of the second set and went point for point with Mt. Vernon. After leading the game 8-7 early in the second set, the Cougars couldn't handle the serving pressure from the Marauders. Mt. Vernon stacked up 12 straight points against GC, and there was no coming back from that deficit. The Marauders finished the second set with a 25-11 win. The third set started to look like there might be some hope for the Cougars. GC jumped up to a 12-7 lead, prompting a Mt. Vernon timeout. Both teams went back and forth, and found themselves tied 15-15 in the third set. The Marauders ultimately pushed through to take the third and final set 25-17. Varsity volleyball is now 9-7 this season.
